Rakaposhi is a mountain in the Karakoram mountain range. It is situated in the Nagar Valley approximately 100 km north of the city of Gilgit. Rakaposhi means "shining wall" in the local language. Rakaposhi is also known as Rakaposhi Peak. Rakapushi and Dumani ("Mother of Mist"). It is ranked 27th highest in the world and 12th highest in Pakistan, but it is more popular for its beauty than its rank might suggest and is said to be one of the most beautiful mountains in the world. It is 7788 m high.
This trek is located within the Rakaposhi Range in the region of Nagar valley. It is also an opportunity to see the local culture of the mountain people. There are summer settlements in this trekking route, local people with their cattle (sheep, goats, yaks and cows etc.). There are pasturelands on the whole trek only on the top have the glacier moraine, it takes 2-3 hours easy walk to cross the moraine. It is just like Nepal but there are no lodges therefore, we are arranging the camps for the portage we use the animals. From Minapin village the path follows the irrigation channel and crosses the river on a good bridge. It then follows the River before ascending steeply through woods to a summer settlement knows as Bungidas. Higher up is the smaller summer settlement of Hapakun with good camping.
The path continues through woods pastures, climbing steeply to the crest of lateral moraine which until now has hidden the huge Minapin Glacier to the left. There are spectacular views from here of Diran peak (7266) excellent view of north face of Rakposhi (7788 m). The narrow path then traverses across slop, which drops away steeply down to the glacier before descending to Tagafari, a narrow field between the lateral moraine and Rakaposhi. If this is as far as you intend to go, it is well worth spending a day here to explore and take in the scenery. From Tagafari, it is possible to cross the Minapin glacier to Kachelly, a summer pasture with superb views of Rakaposhi.
